Industry Presentation on HTML5 & CSS3

by Derek O'Brien on June 10 2010

During a discussion with Nick about getting in a speaker for Second Wednesday, I found myself in the position of agreeing to do the presentation myself, when the speakers I had in mind could not speak for one reason or another.

HTML5 & CSS3 are not my strengths as I come from a background of interactive media, primarily Actionscript on the Adobe Flash platform but as a lecturer in interactive and serverside technology I always ensure I research in new technologies as they become available.

The presentation obviously attracted interest with a new record breaking attendance achieved at the new venue (article). Considering the low rsvp on the groups MeetUp page the attendance went beyond everybodies expectation.

The presentation itself went well, plenty of challenging questions asked by the audience which pushed the presentation over its hour long slot including plenty of debate into the pro’s and con’s of using HTML5 and CSS3 today.

By the end of the evening and plenty of talking done I can only hope that many myths of HTML5 and CSS3 have been cleared up and that the attendees felt more confident of what and when they can use html & CSS3 today within their own websites.

Just like to say thanks to Nick Hayward of FCS Websites for allowing me to do my talk and more so for the attendees for listening to my presentation, I hope it was of use.

Presentation demo files including a PDF of the presentation slides can be found here.
